Moods of the Sea (2006)
for solo piano
ca. 10'
PROGRAM NOTE
Moods of the Sea began as a harmonic succession inspired by an ocean's wave forming as a roll, gaining a crest, breaking upon the shore, and so on by way of harmonic dissonance and chord inversions. It developed into four distinct sections with different tonal centers in major thirds: D, F sharp, B flat, and a return to D. The piece is something of an impressionistic journey into the different realms of the sea, from the grandeur and power of the ocean continuing into the deep to reflect on the mystery and strange life of its waters.
